Celebrating the Bay

November 19, 2012

Maybe losing the porch was a good thing...

This house used to be a bit of a jumble. We're pretty sure the nice screen porch on the second floor was not original, particularly because it turned out to be the last straw for our front porch built out of trim. Now that the bay window is fully exposed, we decided to make the most of it.

With just the underlayers showing, it was a very graphic arrow shape. That was fun for a few minutes, but luckily we moved past the awkward teenage phase. Then the Boral siding went on, including some of the cut-off pieces left over from making all the factory seconds into the same shape for siding. Already when the base paint went on, you could see that the bay would stand apart. And now it's really shining, with the extra accent colors, and the graceful braces to hold up the big super-insulated ears.

This bay is a real group effort, the beneficiary of lots of good work and problem solving from the demo crew, three framing crews, the finish carpenters, and the painters.
